They twisted arms, pulled hair, snatched handbags, choked one another and used everyday objects for... self-defense – all in order to feel safe. For the sixth time, the District Police Headquarters in Lubin organized a self-defense course for women.
Throughout March – twice a week – women from Lubin County could learn self-defense under the supervision of an instructor from a Lubin Krav Maga school. Dangerous situations in which potential victims may find themselves usually occur in places where they least expect them. No one can predict when and where they may happen. – To prevent this and teach the course participants to anticipate threats, realistically assess them and behave correctly when they occur, we tried to create the most realistic conditions possible during the course. For this reason, the women took part in classes held not only in a gym, but also in a venue – a place with limited space, crowds, chairs and no opportunity to quickly move away from an attacker. There was also training on public transport and training in high heels – Lubin police officers explain.
They add: – The skills acquired during these meetings will be useful to the women at any time. However, a very important aspect of this course is making its participants aware that whether we become victims of crime depends to a large extent on how we behave, spend time or move through potentially dangerous places. The participants learned not only to react quickly, but also to assess threats correctly, defend themselves appropriately in response to an attack and control their emotions.
The course was held again thanks to the support of the Lubin County starost, who funded the classes and provided the initiative with honorary patronage for the sixth time. Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Miejskiej w Lubinie, Galeria „Cuprum Arena” and Centrum Kultury „Muza” w Lubinie also joined the initiative.
This year, the women were particularly surprised by a female instructor who began training in krav maga after the “Safe Woman” edition. Agnieszka Kazimierów gained instructor qualifications and now inspires other women with her passion.
