On Friday afternoon, a police car collided with a Renault Megane passenger car. The incident occurred at a traffic-light-controlled intersection near a Shell petrol station. The police officer driving the Polonez entered the intersection from Spółdzielcza Street. There, he collided with a Renault carrying two women. As a result of the impact, the Renault came to a stop on a nearby pavement, where it struck a pedestrian. The 72-year-old man, who suffered a fractured pelvis and arm bone, was taken to hospital.
The police officer travelling in the police car and the two women in the Megane were also injured in Friday’s collision. The police officer was taken to hospital with a head injury. The women suffered general bruising and abrasions.
Police are investigating the circumstances of Friday’s collision. It is already known that the officer driving the Polonez was responding to an earlier report of a 13-year-old being struck by a vehicle. It is also known that the police car had its lights and siren activated and that the officer was sober. Police are currently conducting an internal investigation to determine whether the officer violated any regulations. In addition, the case will be referred to the prosecutor’s office.
