– Contrary to the stereotypes that may immediately come to mind, it is possible – confirms Jerzy Łużniak, Deputy Mayor of Jelenia Góra. – The fire service also uses a mobile phone at its dispatch centre and monitors the SMS messages appearing there. This method of communication is specific, but effective, and allows people who would not be able to establish an effective connection by conventional means to communicate with firefighters.

However, this number is provided exclusively to interested individuals or associations of people with this form of disability. Firefighters already have many sad experiences resulting from the thoughtlessness of intoxicated “pranksters” or completely irresponsible people who, for amusement, initiated a complicated rescue operation, sometimes giving non-existent addresses where people allegedly requiring urgent help were waiting.

– We must limit access to this number to a group of people with disabilities – explains Jerzy Sładczyk, commander of the State Fire Service in Jelenia Góra – otherwise we would be faced with an avalanche of SMS messages containing false calls for help.
