After education, the second-largest category of expenditure is spending on social assistance. The amount allocated for this purpose in 2015 will total more than PLN 75 million, or approximately 17.5 percent of all municipal expenditure.

Here are examples of meeting and financing various needs in the area of supporting people requiring care and assistance from the municipality:

  • family allowances paid by MOPS, allowance supplements, maintenance benefits, pension and disability insurance contributions and health insurance contributions, care allowances and benefits, one-off childbirth grants – PLN 21,593,880
  • covering the costs of care services for bedridden people and those requiring specialist care – PLN 7,012,600
  • operation of the Social Welfare Home for Children at ul. Kubusia Puchatka and the Social Welfare Home for Adults at ul. Grabskiego – PLN 5,675,234
  • operation of municipal care and education facilities (the Children's Home at ul. Wandy, the Care Emergency Centre at ul. Wojska Polskiego, the Family Children's Home at ul. Heweliusza, and two Therapeutic Day Centres at Bracka and Jaworzyńska) – PLN 5,189,130
  • costs of operating four nurseries – PLN 4,963,100
  • housing allowances for the poorest families – PLN 4,800,000
  • pension and disability insurance contributions paid by MOPS, targeted allowances for beneficiaries' essential living needs, periodic allowances, the purchase of fuel and arranging funerals – PLN 4,506,000
  • costs of Legnica residents' stays in social welfare homes outside the city – PLN 3,760,000
  • participation in co-financing the operating costs of the Powiat Labour Office in Legnica – PLN 3,253,951
  • operation of support centres, such as the Night Shelter and the Mother and Child Care Centre at ul. Przemysłowa, the Day Care Home at ul. Korfantego, and the Community Self-Help Home run by the “Persona” Association – PLN 3,069,030.00
  • assistance for children placed in foster families – PLN 2,739,590
  • permanent allowances for MOPS beneficiaries – PLN 2,114,000
  • support for families experiencing care and educational difficulties – PLN 954,720
  • providing meals for pupils at schools and adults requiring food assistance – PLN 569,680
  • vocational and social rehabilitation of people with disabilities (co-financing three occupational therapy workshops) – PLN 123,300
  • co-financing the activities of the Interparish Charity Canteen – PLN 60,000.
