The murder took place yesterday in the building at 12 Warszawska Street. In the late afternoon, one of the tenement's residents noticed that the door to his neighbor's apartment was ajar. The man went inside and saw a 56-year-old lying there. Marks on his body indicated that he had been beaten. The building's residents notified the ambulance service and the police.
It was initially established that, in the afternoon, an acquaintance came to visit 56-year-old Jerzy O. During the meeting, the host was attacked with a wooden stake. Police have already detained a 50-year-old suspect in the case. The exact circumstances of the incident will become known after the autopsy and the conclusion of the investigation.
Update: 2006-04-06
The autopsy showed that the direct cause of Jerzy O.'s death was choking on blood. This means that the 50-year-old Bolesławiec resident suspected of beating him did not directly intend to kill his victim—the injuries, although extensive, did not cause his death. The beaten man could have been saved if he had received help in time.
