Border Guard officers from Jelenia Góra uncovered 674 kg of cut tobacco and 23 kg of tobacco leaves during operations in Wałbrzych. The market value of the illegal goods was estimated at nearly PLN 400,000.

The tobacco, which bore no excise stamps, was stored in a car parked in a garage on one of Wałbrzych’s main streets. It turned out that the goods belonged to a 46-year-old resident of Wałbrzych, who now faces up to three years in prison and a hefty fine.

Had the illegal tobacco reached the market, the state treasury could have lost nearly half a million złoty.
