A ceremony marking the signing of an agreement on cooperation in providing volunteer services between Dom Pomocy Społecznej “Ostoja”, Dom Pomocy Społecznej “Jutrzenka” and “Górnik” was held in the assembly hall of ZSZiL im. Górników i Energetyków Turowa in Zgorzelec.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by county head Artur Bieliński, director of DPS “Ostoja” Barbara Zagórska, director of DPS “Jutrzenka” Danuta Świątek, as well as cooperation coordinators: Jadwiga Koniuszewska and Dorota Frazik.

The song “Tolerancja” by Stanisław Soyka, performed by first-year student Jędrzej Biernacki, prompted the meeting’s participants to reflect on their own lives. Meanwhile, a performance by a resident of DPS “Jutrzenka” brought moments of admiration and joy.

For the students of “Górnik”, developing this cooperation is a step toward gaining new life experiences. Contact with senior citizens will be a good opportunity to learn empathy and acceptance of things that are so difficult to understand: illness, disability, suffering and death. The knowledge they gain will allow them to view the world and people differently, especially older people. It will certainly enrich them spiritually and intellectually. Residents of the Dom Pomocy Społecznej facilities will receive psychological support from young people, as well as help with everyday activities. Loneliness and sadness can be overcome by opening oneself to another person. The cooperation that has been established gives the young people from “Górnik” a chance to attend a real school of life.
