The accident occurred before midnight on the A4 motorway near Krzyżowa. For reasons not yet established, the driver of a Ford Escort left the road, travelled approximately 70 metres along the shoulder and hit a tree. The car was travelling at high speed, as the Ford was completely destroyed.
The car was driven by a 53-year-old resident of Sosnowiec. He was travelling with his 23-year-old son. The driver absorbed the full force of the impact; he suffered head and chest injuries. He died in the ambulance on the way to hospital.
The motorway was not slippery. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
