The headmaster of II LO, Mirosław Sakowski, preserved part of the legacy of the local government official and collector of radio technology monuments. The second general secondary school now houses a gallery featuring the collection of the late Bolesławiec resident.
The collector’s wife and daughter, as well as his friends Danuta Maślicka, Józef Król and Karol Stasik, attended the gallery’s opening.
“Almost five hundred people visit the gallery at our school every day—they are our students,” said Mirosław Sakowski. “When the young people first saw gramophones and radios from the 1920s, they were deeply impressed. I should add that each of these historic devices is in perfect condition and works. We do not have everything, but we can boast almost 30 objects. We have a gramophone from 1924, a mini-gramophone and a suitcase gramophone from 1930, a spark transmitter from 1898 and a magic lantern from the 1940s—the simplest type of projector,” the headmaster of II LO said, promoting the collection.

Danuta Maślicka read excerpts from an interview Bohdan Pieliński gave her for the Bolesławiec Yearbook (2011). Her reading introduced the audience to the collector’s magical world: he described his love of working with old radio receivers, his passion for bringing them back to life, and spoke about passing time and the magic hidden in crackling vinyl records, on which the voices of long-dead artists, musicians and actors still live.
Bohdan Pieliński died in September 2014. On his RetroRadio website, he ran a blog and documented his collection.
