On 27 October, the regional court handed down a verdict in the case of marijuana cultivation in Jelenia Góra. As the prosecutor established, in the autumn of last year four young men—two of them students—decided to start growing cannabis. To this end, they rented a house on Podleśna Street and bought the necessary equipment.

The owner of the property did not know the real reason for renting it. The suspects left their personal belongings there so that everything would give the impression that the house was being regularly used.

While waiting for their own harvest, the men indulged in marijuana. As a result, 28-year-old Chrystian D. was also charged, among other things, with selling 40 g of marijuana, as well as possessing more than 70 g of the drug and more than 5 g of methamphetamine.

On 8 January this year, CBŚ officers arrived at the building and found 333 plants and 36 g of dried cannabis on Podleśna Street.

During the swiftly conducted investigation, which concluded as early as February, it emerged that the seized plants could have produced more than 667 g of marijuana, while the dried cannabis could have yielded more than 376 so-called retail portions.

The court sentenced D., the initiator of the operation, to a total of four years in prison, ordered the forfeiture of financial benefits obtained from selling marijuana, and imposed a fine. Twenty-three-year-old student Marcin K. was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, forfeiture of benefits, and a fine. The remaining perpetrators—24-year-old student Przemysław Ł. and 27-year-old Marcin B.—were each sentenced to three years in prison and fined.

None of the defendants had previously been convicted. The verdict is not final.
