The thief—a 52-year-old resident of Legnica who currently has no permanent place of residence—entered the store and stole metal-cutting shears and... a broom handle. He then walked through the checkout line without paying for the goods and sat on a bench outside the store. There, using the stolen handle, he moved the surveillance camera so that it no longer covered the bicycle parking area.

Next, using the stolen shears, he cut the cable securing one of the bicycles to the rack and attempted to ride away. He was detained by security guards and handed over to the police.

The suspect had been repeatedly convicted of shoplifting. At the time of his arrest, he was intoxicated, with almost 0.8 per mille of alcohol in his system.

He now faces a sentence of up to five years in prison.
