On Wednesday, September 17, a large audience gathered at the Bolesławiec Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to attend a wonderful concert featuring music from the television series Czas Honoru. More than 110 musicians—the Lower Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Gaudium Choir of the University of Wrocław and the Choir of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences—performed works by composer Bartosz Chajdecki. In the Basilica’s beautiful interior, the attendees were welcomed by the Mayor of Bolesławiec, Piotr Roman, and the Dean, Rev. Prelate Dr. Andrzej Jarosiewicz, who emphasized the exceptional nature of the event.
The performance was enhanced by soloists Anna Witczak, Paulina Walendziak and Krzysztof Iwaneczko. Alan Urbanek conducted the concert. The musical pieces were interspersed with poems by Polish poets, which perfectly introduced and emphasized the atmosphere. The poems included
. “Tych miłości....” by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński and Zbigniew Herbert’s “Buttons,” which refers to Katyń, were recited by the actors playing the leading roles in the series: Agnieszka Więdłocha, who played Lena, and Antoni Pawlicki, who played Janek. Broadcast by Telewizja Polska since 2008, the series is inspired by the lives of soldiers from the Second World War known as the “Silent Unseen” and tells the dramatic story of young patriots—Bronko, Janek, Michał, Władek and those closest to them.
The concert was organized by the Municipality of Bolesławiec and the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre. The concert was made possible with the support of companies from Bolesławiec: SRG GLOBAL Bolesławiec Sp. z o.o., Gerresheimer Bolesławiec S.A., Ekoceramika Sp. z o.o. and Bader Polska Sp. z o.o.
