The District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubin charged a 44-year-old man from Lubin with abusing his wife, which resulted in the victim attempting to take her own life. The abuse occurred from August of the previous year until 13 April 2014. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused started arguments during which he insulted his wife and humiliated her in the presence of their children. Moreover, he shoved the woman, violated her bodily integrity and threatened to kill her.

In February of this year, the court dissolved the parties’ marriage by divorce, ruling that the accused was at fault. Despite this, the former spouses continued to live together, and the psychological torment inflicted by the accused became increasingly painful for the victim.

Unable to endure the situation, the woman attempted to take her own life on 13 April. Fortunately, she was taken to hospital fairly quickly. Once she had physically recovered, she fell into depression and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for a time.

Following the suicide attempt, the victim’s family reported the crime. The 44-year-old was detained. He did not admit guilt. He claimed that his former wife was the one who abused alcohol and that she was the one who insulted him.

The prosecutor placed the man under police supervision, ordered him to leave the premises where he had lived with the victim, and prohibited him from approaching or contacting her.

The 44-year-old miner faces up to 5 years in prison. The trial will take place before the District Court in Lubin.
