At 12:00, we will launch the Children’s Land for little princesses, princes, knights, witches and dragons, complete with a real castle and children’s bar; open the fun & sport area with skateboarding, BMX, streetball and breakdance; and present urban art, from graffiti to street art, featuring German and Polish artists. There will also be films, discussions, an open stage for emerging artists, workshops—including instrument building, urban gardening, screen printing, hula-hooping and jewellery making—with associations from Görlitz and Zgorzelec, a bicycle workshop, an art market with craft artists and much, much more. Regional bands will perform on the open-air stage (KorDon from Zgorzelec), alongside ambitious new acts: Fair Weather Friends from the Katowice area and Tomika from Leipzig.
Fair Weather Friends will come to the Neisse from Upper Silesia and fire up our main stage with retro sounds inspired by the music of the wild 1970s and 1980s. Seasoned with electronic improvisations and indie pop, these sounds have successfully entered the canon of new 21st-century music. A true explosion of pure energy is in store! You can hear it clearly on the band’s debut EP, “Eclectic Pixel”, which, causing a sensation on Polish radio stations, took Fair Weather Friends to Poland’s biggest festival stages. Their first album will be released as early as September 2014. Just before then, you can see them live at Fokus!
After the final live music performances, we will move to two Görlitz clubs: at the Basta youth cultural centre, the best DJs will serve up hip-hop sounds, while fans of electronic music will head to the student club Maus for techno and electro, where they can hear What?Else! from Stuttgart.
Fokus Camp with creative workshops
From 30 August to 7 September, Polish and German camp participants took part in urban gardening and furniture-building workshops and transformed an old car into a bicycle. The results of the young campers’ work will be on display during the festival itself. More information is available online at www.fokusfestival.eu.
