22 September (Monday) is Car-Free Day. The city proposes that anyone carrying a valid vehicle registration certificate should be able to travel by bus free of charge on all routes throughout the day. On this day, the vehicle registration certificate will serve as a valid ticket.

Depending on the level of interest, it is possible that the authorities of Jelenia Góra will repeat such initiatives—perhaps specifically during periods when temperature inversion causes smoke and exhaust fumes to settle at the bottom of the valley.

“This September experiment will tell us how attached drivers have become to their cars, but I would like this idea to gain popularity, because it would then represent each resident’s personal, individual contribution to cleaner air in the city,” the president adds.

Regardless, the City is intensifying its efforts במסגרת the “Kawka” programme, which primarily involves replacing heat sources with environmentally friendly alternatives and carrying out thermal modernisation, making it possible to reduce heat consumption.
