On 15 August this year at 11:00 a.m., a ceremony marking Polish Armed Forces Day was held at the Church of Saint Boniface in Zgorzelec. The ceremony was attended by representatives of local authorities, uniformed services, veterans’ associations, social organizations and associations, as well as numerous residents of our city. Flowers were then laid beneath plaques commemorating the presence of military units in Zgorzelec.
The celebrations in Bogatynia began with a Mass for the Homeland at the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, after which participants proceeded to the square by the John Paul II community center. The remainder of the ceremony took place there, with commemorative speeches emphasizing how important this day is both for the Church and for the state.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to present specially prepared tributes to those who had paid for their youth with the struggle for a “Free and Independent” homeland. Presented by Mayor of the City and Municipality of Bogatynia Andrzej Grzmielewicz, Bogatynia’s Siberians and veterans received commemorative gifts.
Mayor Andrzej Grzmielewicz extends his heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in Friday’s ceremonies. Enormous thanks are due to the organizations supporting the ceremony, the many banner groups that attended, the artists, the employees of the Bogatynia Cultural Center, the Sports and Recreation Center and the City and Municipality Office in Bogatynia, as well as everyone who contributed to organizing this very important celebration. He also directed special thanks to Dean Jan Żak for his personal commitment and assistance in organizing the ceremony.
