Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn, while conducting a night patrol of Gromadka Municipality, caught a thief red-handed. The incident occurred in one of the truck parking areas where TIR drivers stop to rest. Police determined that the 40-year-old resident of the county had arrived at the crime scene in a van containing six prepared plastic containers, each with a capacity of 25 litres.

The suspect was detained while loading a fuel-filled container into the van. The man was unable to explain where the fuel came from and had no documents with him. He also tried to flee the scene, but was detained after a brief chase. Officers found a second container of diesel fuel and a rubber fuel hose in the suspect’s vehicle.

During further activities carried out at the scene, police found that one of the truck owners, after checking, confirmed that a significant amount of fuel was missing. The detained man admitted to the theft. The 40-year-old had previously been convicted of similar offences. The suspect will now face court proceedings for his actions. Theft is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.

In Bolesławiec County, officers are carrying out preventive measures that include checking parking areas popular with truck drivers, speaking with drivers and handing out leaflets containing prevention advice, the use of which may reduce the risk of becoming a victim of thieves.
