The ceremonial opening of the love corner beneath the chestnut trees took place on July 12 in Ławszowa (Osiecznica commune). A metal heart was installed there, where couples can hang symbolic padlocks. In addition to the lovers’ names, the padlocks can be engraved with dates—for example, of a wedding, engagement or simply the beginning of a relationship—and the key can then be thrown into the well located nearby.

“This is probably the first place of this kind in Bolesławiec County,” says Wanda Orzechowska, Ławszowa’s village head. “We know how great a problem the padlocks on Tumski Bridge are; the bridge needs renovation. There will be no such problem in Ławszowa.”

“The idea was born when Ławszowa’s cooperation with the marshal’s office began, that is, when councillor Wanda Abram entered us in the ‘Beautiful Lower Silesian Village’ competition,” the village head explains. “That was when we began to wonder what else we could do in our village. Visitors come to us for workshops and rafting trips. Now we have another attraction for them. Ms Renata Durda-Tyszkiewicz from the Osiecznica Commune Office helps us greatly in carrying out these projects.”

The residents of Ławszowa created this corner on their own. “If people like the idea, we will put up more,” Wanda Orzechowska announces. Several dozen padlocks are already hanging there. Ławszowa welcomes you!
