At the initiative of Jacek Maj, a German teacher, Małgorzata Urlich-Kornacka from the Warsaw Goethe-Institut visited the Janusz Korczak II Secondary School in Bolesławiec. “I arrived in a colorful car called Deutsch Wagen. There are five such vehicles in Poland. We travel from school to school and conduct unconventional German-language classes,” says the Goethe-Institut instructor. “We use neither desks nor books nor notebooks. Our classes involve games, activities and quizzes. Above all, we want to encourage students to learn the language and overcome stereotypes. We want to show that it can be learned in a different way.”
The idea for the “Deutsch Wagen Tour” project was born in France; Poland was the second country to join the initiative. Supported by the Ministry of National Education, the project is aimed at preschoolers as well as primary, lower-secondary and upper-secondary school students. “It is very popular,” Małgorzata Urlich-Kornacka emphasizes. “It is German delivered to the student.”
The Goethe-Institut instructor also visited the II Private Lower-Secondary School in Bolesławiec.
