The May programme also includes “A Long Way Down”, a warm and humorous story about friendship unto death, adapted from the novel by Nick Hornby. Jan Ole Gerster’s excellent, award-winning black-and-white debut “Oh, Boy!”, featuring a superb jazz soundtrack.

The final title in the May programme is one of the most acclaimed films of the 1950s: “A Streetcar Named Desire”. An adaptation of Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, it is famous for the many controversies surrounding Hollywood censorship. This film will launch a small retrospective of American classics from Hollywood’s most famous studio that are rarely shown on the big screen.

Five titles from the nationwide retrospective “Masterpieces of American Cinema. 90 Years of Warner Bros” have been selected for the Film Discussion Club programme. In addition to “A Streetcar Named Desire”, audiences will see, on the last Monday of each month: “A Clockwork Orange”, “Singin’ in the Rain”, “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Empire of the Sun”.
