In February, we reported that the Sailing Club had been established at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Janusza Korczaka in Bolesławiec. “The young people reacted very positively to this initiative,” Jacek Maj, a German teacher and the club’s supervisor, told us at the time.

In January, Zdzisław Czyżowicz, vice-commodore of the Bolesławiec Yacht Club and head of II Prywatne Gimnazjum, a school that cultivates sailing traditions, met with the young sailing enthusiasts. “There is a club in our county that trains children from primary schools, and there is our middle school. What was missing was an organization where students from upper-secondary schools could develop their passions,” the vice-commodore emphasized. “Now the Sailing Club at II LO will serve as that link.”

“I am pleased that we have established cooperation with II Prywatne Gimnazjum and that, after graduating from that school, our students will have the opportunity to continue their sailing education with us,” added Mirosław Sakowski, head of II Liceum Ogólnokształcące.

On April 24, fourteen students from “the two” took part in practical classes at Bolesławiecki Park Wodny “Orka”. They were led by Jakub Jakubowski, a WOPR lifeguard, who spoke, among other things, about how to use rescue equipment. “We have already held many theoretical classes covering yacht construction, sailing theory and sailing etiquette. Now we are preparing to go out on the water,” says Jacek Maj.

The students will have the opportunity to take practical classes at the gravel pit in Krępnica and set out on two cruises: on the Mediterranean Sea (at the turn of April and May) and on the Masurian Lakes (probably at the end of June). They will also be able to obtain yacht sailor and sea skipper qualifications, as well as serve as boat commanders.

“My sailing adventure began when I got a job at II Prywatne Gimnazjum,” says Jacek Maj. “It is a beautiful sport and a fascinating hobby.”
