Everyone could taste the dishes during the Competition for Traditional Dishes and the Most Beautiful Easter Arrangements, held on Saturday, April 5, in Bożejowice.

The event began with a welcome to the guests by the Chairwoman of the District Council of Rural Housewives’ Associations Olga Burdyna. Among those invited were Senator of the Republic of Poland Jan Michalski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Cezary Przybylski, assistant to MEP Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg Paweł Zieliński, Bolesławiec County Head Dariusz Kwaśniewski, Chair of the County Council Karol Stasik, Mayor of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman, Deputy Chairwoman of the Bolesławiec City Council Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, Chair of the Bolesławiec Municipal Council Bogusław Uziej, Head of Bolesławiec Municipality Andrzej Dutkowski, Deputy Head of Bolesławiec Municipality Roman Jaworski, and Secretary of the City and Municipality of Nowogrodziec Kazimierz Orlef.

First came the winners of the Easter arrangement competition, decided several days earlier. More than 100 entries were submitted in two age categories. The competition committee, consisting of Krystyna Grela and Grażyna Wężyk, faced a very difficult task, as many original and beautiful works deserved an award. In the younger category, first place went to Klaudia Duma, Ewelina Kukla and Magdalena Sondaj from the Art Club operating at the Community Center in Brzeźnik.

Second place was won by Jakub and Marcelina Wieczorek from Kraśnik Górny. Honorable mentions went to Martyna and Marcelina Czuchraj of Żeliszów Primary School; Jakub Wieczorek of Kraśnik Górny; Maja Giera of Dąbrowa Primary School; Aleksandra Kopeć of Dąbrowa Primary School; Teresa Klimczyk of Nowe Jaroszowice; Maja Kuraś of Kraśnik Dolny Primary School; fourth-grade class, a group entry, of Trzebień Primary School; Aleksandra Faltyn of Trzebień Primary School; and Ariel Mielczarek of Żeliszów Primary School.

The awards and certificates were presented to the winners by Bolesławiec Municipality Head Andrzej Dutkowski and Janusz Cieśla, Director of the Municipal Culture and Sports Center in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn. It was time to begin the second of the titular competitions: Traditional Easter Dishes.

The committee, consisting of Halina Kurmańska, Jan Michalski, Paweł Zieliński and Ryszard Miziniak, undertook this particularly pleasant task. During the deliberations, girls from the 4-H Club in Łaziska, Anna Szemberska and Daria Scholz, entertained the event’s participants. It must be admitted that the competition tastings lasted quite a while and were difficult to judge. After deliberating, the committee members presented awards and honorable mentions.

Senator Jan Michalski also presented his awards for the most beautiful Easter Table: first place went to the KGW from Gromadka, second to the KGW from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, and third to the Bożejowice-Rakowice Association. The prize will be a trip to Warsaw, including a tour of the Sejm and Senate buildings.

MEP Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg also presented special awards, represented by Paweł Zieliński. He presented awards to members of the KGW in Jurków, for the prettiest Easter egg, and the KGW in Trzebień, for the tastiest cake. The hosts of this year’s event, the KGW from Ocice, also received a gift, presented by Piotr Roman. Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Cezary Przybylski honored the District Council of Rural Housewives’ Associations with a splendid gift.

Saturday was an amazing day, filled not only with a huge abundance of Easter delicacies, but also with numerous people receiving awards in the competitions. After the scores were tallied, it was time to announce the results of the main competition. The women of the KGW from Trzebień took first place, the KGW from Wykroty came second, and the KGW from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki third.

The remaining Rural Housewives’ Associations from Bolesławice, Bożejowice-Rakowice, Brzeźnik, Dąbrowa, Dobra, Gromadka, Godzieszów, Jurków, Kierżno, Kraśnik Dolny, Kruszyn, Łaziska, Nowa Wieś, Nowe Jaroszowice, Osiecznica, Parzyce, Suszki, Stare Jaroszowice, Wykroty and Żeliszów received honorable mentions. The congratulations, group photos and embraces seemed endless. The women of Ocice also prepared a surprise for one of their colleagues from the KGW—the Ocice association includes several men alongside the many women—and, together with everyone in the hall, sang “100 lat” to celebrate his 40th birthday.

The event was organized by Bolesławiec County, the District Council of Rural Housewives’ Associations and the Municipal Culture and Sports Center in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn.
