The change took place after the previous county head, Cezary Przybylski, resigned from his position because he had been elected marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Kwaśniewski had served as a member of the executive board and was Przybylski’s closest associate.
Thirteen councillors supported Kwaśniewski’s candidacy, three voted against, and the same number abstained.
Dariusz Kwaśniewski has been associated with the county office since the very beginning. Several years ago, he served as head of the education, culture and sport department.
The new old deputy county head is Stanisław Chwojnicki. Fifteen councillors voted in favour, two against, and two abstained.
Comment by Bolesławiec mayor Piotr Roman:
It is good that he is an informed and experienced person. And—I hope—he will see matters through to the end. The issue of the new financial perspective is important. The question now is what projects the county will prepare. The Obywatelski Dolny Śląsk Association [organizacji związanej z prezydentem Wrocławia Rafałem Dutkiewiczem – przyp. „ii”] managed to include the southern Bolesławiec bypass in the coalition agreement. We greatly helped Bolesławiec activists, so we expect Civic Platform, for its part, to include the construction of a new bridge over the Bóbr.
I worked better with county head Przybylski than the media reported. Proof of this includes the transfer of the building on Armii Krajowej Street and the money we provided for county roads. If there had been no cooperation, such things would not have happened.
I know that PO’s stance often resulted from instructions from above—friendship with people associated with President Dutkiewicz was not welcome. Things are different now. I hope they will improve. The situation in Civic Platform has changed completely. In Lower Silesia, there is now an approach focused on cooperation with everyone except PiS. This atmosphere must be passed on to PO activists in Bolesławiec. I am optimistic.
