Lars von Trier created a film that divides audiences into enthusiasts and those outraged by crossing the boundaries of what may be shown on screen. It features stars of world cinema: Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell and Willem Dafoe.

The film has been described as follows: “In a world obsessed with sex, ‘Nymphomaniac’—like Steve McQueen’s ‘Shame’—is an intelligent and provocative story about subordinating one’s life to the pursuit of pleasure.”

The second film in the Film Discussion Club’s February programme will be ‘The Congress’, with a screenplay based on Stanisław Lem’s ‘The Futurological Congress’ (10 February).

On the last Monday in February, the warm and amusing coming-of-age story about growing into love and responsibility, ‘The Eternal Boys’, directed by Anthony Marciano, will be screened.
