The incident occurred at 9:35 a.m. The ambulance was travelling from Kraśnik towards Bolesławiec, without its siren and warning lights on. On the icy road surface, the ambulance skidded and overturned into a ditch. The ambulance crew and the patient were taken to hospital.
“According to the initial reports I received, the vehicle itself was more badly damaged than the patient or the staff,” says Adam Zdaniuk, director of the district hospital. He assures that the ambulance drivers are experienced. It is already known, however, that the female paramedic has more serious injuries, while the driver complains of spinal pain.
Police have preliminarily determined that the vehicle was travelling too fast. It is known that the road had not been gritted. A gritting vehicle passed through only after police intervened.
