Peter Jackson’s film “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” has taken Polish cinemas by storm. Within five days, nearly 855,000 viewers saw the film across the country. During the same period, more than 3,500 fans of the story written by J.R. R. Tolkien (1892–1973) in the 20th century came to the cinema in Bolesławiec to see the Hobbit’s adventures.

The book “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again” was published in 1937. The story of Bilbo Baggins is an introduction to the “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Tolkien’s novel about elves, dwarves, humans and halflings called hobbits has been firing readers’ imaginations around the world for nearly 80 years.

Director Peter Jackson expanded the original story and added many interesting plotlines. The film delights with magnificent cinematography and the landscapes of New Zealand, as well as spectacular scenes of elves (Legolas and Tauriel) fighting orcs. Smaug himself deserves special attention. A greedy, evil, self-important and brilliantly animated dragon. Called the greatest dragon in cinema.
