The idea came from the band Aftershock, which consists of two students from II Liceum Ogólnokształcącego (guitarist Michał Pietraszko and bassist Rafał Skrzypek) and two students from I LO (guitarist Szymon Różnicki and drummer Maciej Mandżak). “We are a beginner band, and we did not want to organize only our own concert. That is why we thought of a jam session in which both bands and musicians who currently play with no one could take part,” Michał explains.
Michał, Rafał, Szymon and Maciej have been playing together for four months. Interestingly, they were supposed to perform as this lineup only once—at the City Days. The concert went well enough that they decided to continue. They are inspired primarily by Metallica. Their repertoire includes several covers by the thrash-metal legends, but they are also working on their own songs. They are also looking for a vocalist.
“There are not many events of this kind in Bolesławiec,” Michał says. Second in the Rhythm of Rock will be an excellent opportunity to listen to good music or take part in a jam session. Around 30 people have already announced that they will participate in the event. In addition to Aftershock, the Bolesławiec-based Tea Set and Jelenia Góra-based Delayed K will perform. The list is not yet closed.
“It is a very good idea,” says Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II LO. “Our school supports the ideas of students who specialize in very different fields. There has never been a concert like this at our high school,” he adds. “I hope everyone will have a good time,” Michał adds.
Second in the Rhythm of Rock will take place on Friday, November 29. It will begin at 6:00 p.m.. For security reasons, this will be a closed event for approximately 100 people, with free invitations required. They can be obtained both from the II LO secretary’s office and from “the first school.”
The organizers will provide overnight accommodation (the concert is scheduled to last until midnight) and refreshments. Guitar amplifiers and a drum kit will be available on site.
There will also be competitions. The audience will choose the best vocalists, guitarists, bassists and drummers of the first edition of Second in the Rhythm of Rock. There will be prizes! Details can be found on Facebook.
It is worth adding that if the event is successful, it will be held regularly at “the second school.”
