On 8 October, we reported that an 80-year-old resident of Bolesławiec called the police asking for help. The man was picking mushrooms in the forest, lost his bearings, fell over and could not get up. With the help of a forest ranger and thanks to maintaining constant telephone contact with the 80-year-old, police officers from Kruszyn found the mushroom picker.

On Wednesday, 9 October, a 73-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra who had diabetes got lost in the forest. He had gone mushroom picking with an acquaintance. The mushroom pickers split up and were supposed to meet at an agreed place at a specified time. When the man did not arrive, his companion notified the police.

Police officers from Kruszyn and Bolesławiec searched for the unfortunate mushroom picker. As it turned out, the 73-year-old made his own way out of the forest. Near... Dobra. He walked quite a distance, since he had started mushroom picking near... Golnice. What is more, he had neither medication nor a mobile phone with him. Fortunately, nothing happened to him.

The police remind us—if we are going mushroom picking:

  • take a mobile phone, reflective items and a flashlight with us
  • inform our loved ones about the trip and when we intend to return
  • do not take valuable items with us (we may lose them)
  • if we pick mushrooms with children or elderly people, do not let them out of our sight
  • remember distinctive features of the forest; they will make it easier to find our way back.
