In March, we wrote that traffic lights would be installed at the intersection of Łokietka, Garncarska, Gdańska and Kubika streets—as part of an agreement between the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Municipality of Bolesławiec. Everything is almost ready, but the traffic lights themselves are not working. As one Reader wrote on our forum:
There will soon be a tragedy on Gdańska Street. The traffic lights are not working, and two lanes have been made in one direction. A driver going straight cannot see a pedestrian because the vehicle letting the pedestrian cross, standing in the turning lane, blocks the view. Today, a serious accident was narrowly avoided. People, children go to school there!
We contacted Krzysztof Kiniorski, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian Roads and Railway Service. “There are two problems,” the spokesperson explains. “The first is related to the new traffic organization not being adapted to the geometry of the intersection. The designer failed to take into account the existing bus bay, which is too shallow. If a bus stops there, it will block traffic. However, this is an issue we can correct within the next two weeks.
The second problem is... a lack of electricity. “The municipality does not have the energy documents that would authorize us to switch on these traffic lights,” adds Krzysztof Kiniorski.
We managed to establish that at the beginning of September, the municipal authorities submitted the appropriate application. Now everything is in the hands of the energy company. We will return to the matter, but it appears that residents will have to be patient.
