The fifth edition of the Yearbook promises to be very interesting. Doctor Edmund Maliński, a member of the editorial team, presented the publication on slides. Unfortunately, the Bolesławiec Yearbook did not arrive in Bolesławiec on time, for which the organizers sincerely apologized to everyone gathered for the publication’s launch in the Council Chamber.
Despite the book’s physical absence, the authors and people featured in the articles published in it listened with interest to a lecture by Dr. Edmund Maliński, who has been editing the Yearbook together with Anna Bober-Tubaj and Grzegorz Matoryn for five years.
The publication is divided into seven sections presenting the history of the town, exceptional personalities who created or came from Bolesławiec, important and selected events from the town and rural municipality, as well as reviews of publications concerning Bolesławiec.
All the authors and their articles deserve attention. The 2013 Bolesławiec Yearbook includes, among others: a work by Rev. Dr. Andrzej Jaroszewicz on the Bolesławiec basilica, and a history of the Old Theatre prepared by Katarzyna Mularczyk-Biegasiewicz. Danuta Maślicka wrote three texts, including one about the Bolesławiec intelligentsia club operating in the 1950s.
The Yearbook also contains a text by Ewa Ołenicz-Biernacka about Municipal Gymnasium No. 2, as well as three interviews conducted by Katarzyna Żak with Bolesławiec artists: Magdalena Konieczna, Katarzyna Sas and Joanna Mysłek. Grażyna Hanaf presented a profile of Mateusz Grobelny, an artist associated with Bolesławiec for several years and this year’s commissioner of the International Ceramic and Sculptural Open-Air Workshops.
One of the most important articles in this edition will undoubtedly be the piece by Zygmunt Brusiła, who presented a profile of Henryk Baranowski. This actor and outstanding director is currently battling a fatal illness. The profile of the artist associated with Bolesławiec and an account of his achievements will undoubtedly be a valuable keepsake and a witness to a great life passing.
The fifth Bolesławiec Yearbook will be available in the town’s bookshops from July 26, 2013. The second meeting promoting the publication will also take place then, at 5:00 p.m., likewise in the Council Chamber of Bolesławiec Town Hall.
