In the publication, readers will find a wide range of Bolesławiec motifs preserved in visual and written form from the Middle Ages to the present day. The author found images of Bolesławiec in various historical sources: on old city seals, in the city’s coat of arms, on postcards, local substitute currency, in works of traditional and modern visual art, and on the marks of ceramics manufacturers. Folklore, legends, poetry and prose were included in the scope of the research. The work of contemporary local authors, often non-professional yet nevertheless exceptional and worthy of preservation, was also taken into account. It should be emphasised that many of the sources presented saw the light of day for the first time in this work.
According to the author, these are unique testimonies to the emotional bond between former and present residents and their city, because “Bolesławiec has always been fortunate to have residents for whom it is a magical place. The familiar space, inhabited for centuries, does not frighten but fascinates; it makes residents feel at home, and truly themselves, only here.” The results of the research presented in the publication confirm that Bolesławiec has always inspired its residents to create works in various fields of art. The text is illustrated with photographs.
