Improving German-language skills, enhancing physical fitness, promoting the idea of fair play, encouraging active recreation and discovering the attractions of towns located in the historic region of Lusatia were the main objectives of the student exchange between Mittelschule Gesundbrunnen in Bautzen and Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 3 in Bolesławiec. Twenty students took part.
The five-day programme in Germany (13–17 May) included participation in sports activities (football, volleyball and basketball, badminton, and high jump) and excursions. The students visited a miniature park and a dinosaur park, enjoyed numerous adventures at Kletterwald high ropes park, and admired the historic sights of Goerlitz and Bautzen.
From 3 to 7 June, the German group stayed in Bolesławiec. Orienteering, games and activities in the sports hall, a football tournament, recreational activities at Bolesławiecki Park Wodny Orka and an excursion to Karpacz filled the time of the young people taking part in the exchange.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of prizes, certificates and commemorative medals, as well as a joint viewing of a presentation featuring photographs from the entire project.
The students from Poland and Germany remain in regular contact, correspond with one another and talk via online messengers. They also stress that initiatives of this kind should be carried out in the future as well.
The organiser of the youth exchange project “Young Olympians, get ready!”—co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by state budget funds with the support of Euroregion Nysa—was Gimnazjum Samorządowe nr 3 in Bolesławiec.
