A meeting summarizing the implementation of the “Regio Info – bilingual passenger information system in public transport” project was held in Bad Muskau (Germany). The project partners are: Miejski Zakład Komunikacji w Bolesławcu, Kraftverkehrsgesellschaft Dreiländereck Zittau GmbH, Verkehrsgesellschaft Görlitz mbH, PKS w Zgorzelcu Sp. z o.o., and Verkehrsverbund Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien mbH. The lead partner is ZVON Zweckverband Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien. The meeting was also attended by the presidents of the Polish and German sides of the Euroregion Nysa – Piotr Roman and Bernd Lange. The aim of the project is to create a uniformly designed passenger information system for the border areas of Poland and Germany.
During the summary meeting, the project partners presented the results of the work carried out so far. It is worth recalling that during the project, the working team discussed in detail matters concerning the future format of stop timetables and ways of transferring data to line timetables.
As part of the project, Miejski Zakład Komunikacji in Bolesławiec planned to replace its software, including implementation and training, enabling the presentation of bilingual timetables at stops and online, as well as the transfer of timetable information to ZVON. Investments in equipment, software and technical fittings are intended to increase the attractiveness of public transport.
The extensive presentation of the results was delivered by MZK president Andrzej Jagiera: “As part of the project, the company purchased: software enabling the presentation of bilingual timetables at stops and online, with a module for exporting timetables to the TransXchange format; a server meeting the requirements of the purchased system; on-board computers (14 units); internal displays for buses (14 units); external displays for buses (2 sets); and a computer set for timetable planning. In addition, we adapted the illuminated displays in the buses to the requirements of the new software.”
Timetables with legends in Polish and German have appeared at Bolesławiec bus stops, providing an undoubted convenience for tourists. MZK Bolesławiec provides transport services on 11 lines, including 8 lines jointly serving the city and municipality. On working days, 20 buses operate on the lines during peak hours and 10 outside peak hours. The total length of the lines is 142.3 km, while the length of the transport routes is 70.9 km.
The “Regio Info” project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Poland-Saxony Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme 2007–2013.
