On Saturday (27 April), the 2013 Athletics Season Opening Meet took place in Zgorzelec. Approximately 500 male and female athletes from 20 clubs in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship took part in the competition. Athletes from Bolesławiec demonstrated good form ahead of the summer season, repeatedly reaching the podium and setting many personal bests.

The double gold medallist was Kacper Olszewski, who decisively won the shot put (16.88 m) and javelin throw (57.44 m), setting a new personal best. In the women’s category, Beata Dąbal performed excellently, reaching the top step of the podium twice – in the hammer throw (38.16 m) and shot put (11.06 m); in the javelin throw, with a result of 31.56 m, she finished second.

Gold medals went to: Ewa Ochocka in the 600 m race – 1:36.95; Dominik Stec in the javelin throw – 41.25 m; and Dawid Kopała in the hammer throw – 57.10 m. Dawid also took second place in the shot put competition, sending the shot 14.16 m.

Silver medals were won by: Dominika Kamińska in the 1,000 m race – 3:09.47; Monika Sandak in the javelin throw – 36.59 m; Karolina Mrozik in the hammer throw – 43.88 m; Amelia Kołodziej in the high jump – 155 cm; Michał Kutryba in the hammer throw – 27.62 m; and Dominika Kwaszcz in the long jump – 5.57 m. Dominika, who competes in the under-16 category (14–15 years), also achieved an excellent result in the 300 m race – 43.2 s. Third places and bronze medals were won by: Beata Cieśla and Maciej Goss, both in the 600 m race. The meet in Zgorzelec began weekly competition among athletes from across the country to achieve qualifying standards for the Polish Championships in the various age categories.
