The City of Bolesławiec will join the Kwisa Municipalities Association, based in Lubań, to jointly carry out a task involving the provision of a permanent place of stay for homeless animals by operating an animal shelter. Providing care for homeless animals, capturing them and preventing animal homelessness are the municipality’s own responsibilities.

Contact established with the Kwisa Municipalities Association opens up the possibility of launching an animal shelter in 2013 and running it jointly. As part of its membership in the Kwisa Municipalities Association, the Bolesławiec City Council agreed that the Kwisa Municipalities Association would take over from the State Treasury the Specialist Training Centre of the Border Guard in Lubań. The centre is to be used to establish an animal shelter.

The facility to be acquired by the municipalities belonging to the Kwisa Municipalities Association is located in the Lubań Great Forest. The complex covers 11,800 m². It is fenced and equipped with round-the-clock monitoring. The complex comprises 100 kennels, a technical and service building, a warehouse and four bunkers. The total usable area is 765 m². The technical and service building contains a duty room, a kitchen for dogs, a veterinary office, staff facilities and a boiler room. In addition, the complex is equipped with a sewage treatment plant with a pump, a well for drawing water for social and domestic purposes, and a liquid-gas boiler room.
