The first edition of the German Language Competition for Middle-School Students, organized by German teachers from II Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec, took place on Thursday, March 14. Nearly 50 students participated in the competition, which consisted of two stages. In the first, participants completed a test. The second involved a conversation on a given topic, naturally in Goethe’s language.
– The students answered very creatively; we are impressed by their communication skills – says Agnieszka Niedźwiecka, a teacher at II LO and co-organizer of the event. – They already demonstrate considerable language skills in middle school. It would be worthwhile for them to continue their adventure with German in high school as well. This language is an excellent investment in the future.
The competition was won by Daria Zioła from Gimnazjum Samorządowe No. 3 (she received a PLN 150 voucher for books at Agora bookstore). Second place went to Sławomir Ciosek from GS No. 3 (a PLN 100 voucher). Third place went to Beniamin Marek from GS No. 4 (PLN 50). A special distinction (PLN 30) was awarded to the competition’s youngest participant – Maciejowi Michałowiczowi, a fourth-grade student at Primary School No. 2. – He advanced to the second stage and performed excellently there – emphasizes Agnieszka Niedźwiecka.
All middle-school students who qualified for the oral stage received certificates. The competition, whose aim was to promote the German language, was held as part of the “Get to Know II LO” campaign. On March 14, students from middle schools also had an opportunity to tour the school. There were also sweet refreshments prepared by the student council.
The competition was organized by teachers: Joanna Turczyńska, Agnieszka Niedźwiecka, Marcin Ostrowski and Jacek Maj with the support of the student council and the school’s administration. It is worth adding that the school has cooperated with foreign countries, including Germany, since 1993.
