On 1 July 2013, a new waste management system will come into effect. The municipality will select, through a competitive tender, a company that will collect waste from all property owners. This will make dumping rubbish in the forest unprofitable. All residents will pay a waste collection fee according to the principle “You sort – you pay less.”
The system change will introduce a different method of settling fees for municipal waste collection (fees will be collected by Bolesławiec City Hall). Through a tender, the municipality will select an enterprise that will establish a Central Municipal Waste Collection Point, where selected fractions of municipal waste will be collected.
At the Central Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point, sorted fractions of municipal waste are collected, namely glass, paper and cardboard, composite packaging, metal and plastics, green waste, expired medicines and chemicals, used batteries and accumulators, used electrical and electronic equipment, textiles and clothing, used tyres, furniture and other bulky waste, and construction and demolition waste in the form of clean rubble (brick, concrete).
Additionally:
- expired medicines and mercury thermometers should be placed in containers for collecting expired medicines, located in designated pharmacies throughout the city
- used batteries should be placed in special containers for used batteries located at municipal nursery schools and schools, as well as at Bolesławiec City Hall (1 Piłsudskiego Square) and the town hall
- used accumulators should be handed over to retail outlets obliged to collect this waste
- used electrical and electronic equipment (e.g. refrigerators, washing machines, cookers, dishwashers, monitors, televisions, printers, etc.) should be handed over to used electrical and electronic equipment collection points when purchasing new equipment
- furniture and other bulky waste (e.g. floor coverings, carpets, broken ladders, prams) will be collected within 48 hours after the property owner reports it to the authorised entity collecting municipal waste from their property
- construction and demolition waste should be placed in suitable containers for construction waste collection, rented from the waste collection company under an agreement concluded by the property owner with that entity
- green waste should be managed independently and for one's own needs in home composters.
Mixed waste is not accepted at the Central Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point.
Local Selective Municipal Waste Collection Points are sets of containers located beside multi-family residential buildings for sorting the following waste:
- paper, waste paper and composite packaging – blue containers
- plastics and metal – yellow containers
- glass packaging – green containers.
