The accident occurred in Bolesławiec during a meeting more than four years ago. The boys went outdoors under the supervision of an instructor, to an area familiar to everyone. The scouts were divided into groups and were supposed to complete an azimuth grid. It was a simple task that did not require running, only recording compass readings. The teenager climbed a tree, wanting to show off in front of the other scouts. Unfortunately, he fell. The instructor called an ambulance. The boy lost the use of his legs.

The insurance company refused to pay compensation under the instructor’s civil liability insurance because it found no shortcomings in his conduct.

For two years, already using a wheelchair, the boy continued attending meetings. Then the teenager’s parents filed a lawsuit against ZHP. The claim initially sought a monthly annuity of PLN 1,500. The court ruled that a monthly annuity of PLN 400 and a one-time compensation payment of PLN 300,000 would be sufficient.

The judgment is not final, and ZHP has announced that it will appeal.
