The opening of the Microcosmos exhibition at the BOK-MCC Gallery will take place on Friday, February 1, at 6:00 p.m. Joanna Teper will present ceramic objects that form part of an artistic project the artist has been developing for several years.

In her work, she focuses on experimenting with form and examining the relationship between surface and space. In her ceramic works, she moves from an image of the cosmos in the “The Alternate Uniwerses” series to the microscale, depicting people in works from the “Facebook” cycle.

“I draw inspiration for my work from the world around me,” says Joanna Teper “I analyze, experience and interpret the fundamental sources for my ceramic objects, namely people and their environment. Transformed by my imagination, they take on physical shapes whose surfaces I hand-paint using traditional ceramic techniques to tell my stories,” she adds.

Simple geometric forms and the raw, unglazed surfaces of objects made from chamotte clay become backgrounds for painterly and graphic work on their planes. The materiality of space, painted surfaces with their colors and the contrast of lines create intimate landscapes depicting a fragment of reality. The exhibition will be open until March 3, 2013.
