The results of the sixth edition of the competition for the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s Award for the best master’s or doctoral thesis on the history and contemporary life of the city were announced on 7 December. The winners were selected by a jury comprising: Dr hab. Grzegorz Strauchold from the University of Wrocław, Dr hab. Robert Masztalski from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Dr hab. Waldemar Tyc from the Wrocław University of Economics, Bolesławiec secretary Jerzy Zieliński and chief specialist at the Social Department of Bolesławiec Municipal Office Jacek Dudyński.

Five theses were submitted to the competition. No first prize was awarded. The second prize (PLN 2,000) went to Kinga Pokojowy for the master’s thesis “Analysis of the Possibility of Reconstructing the Historic Footbridge over the Bóbr River in Bolesławiec” (Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, supervisor: Dr Wojciech Kilian). The third prize (PLN 1,000) went to Anna Czerwonka for the master’s thesis “Cultural Centre at the Former Concordia Textile Factory” (Wrocław University of Science and Technology, supervisor: Dr Paweł Kirschke).

The committee also awarded a special prize (also PLN 1,000) to Andrzej Olejniczak for the doctoral thesis “The Grand Army in Silesia in 1813” (University of Wrocław, supervisor: Prof. Jerzy Maroń).

Moreover, the sections of Andrzej Olejniczak’s thesis concerning Bolesławiec will be translated into French (for the European Federation of Napoleon Cities), while part of Kinga Pokojowy’s thesis will be published in the “Bolesławiec Yearbook”.
