The updated Local Revitalization Plan of the City of Bolesławiec includes the reconstruction of a retention reservoir in the former military area on Jeleniogórska Street. As part of the investment, the former forest complex in the southern part of the city is to be reclaimed. The project includes creating a leisure area and increasing the area’s tourist appeal. Plans include parking lots, small-scale architecture (benches and lamps), a catering shelter with a grill, bicycle and pedestrian paths, and, above all, the restoration of a water reservoir divided into a swimming section (pool) and a plant-based filter, along with piers for anglers.

The investment will result in the creation of a recreational and leisure complex that will provide a beautiful place to relax while also regulating water management in Bolesławiec. Before the war, the reservoir was used as a recreational area known as the “Waldschloss” Forest Castle, featuring forest health trails, a monument, stone steps and places for walking. It also served as a retention reservoir collecting water from the forest stream “Złoty Potok” and regulated the hydrological conditions of the forest complex. During World War II, the facility was partially destroyed and was used by the military until the end of the 1970s.

The revitalization of the water reservoir will restore a small-retention facility that will improve the city’s hydrological and flood-protection situation. Bolesławiec City Hall will seek funding of PLN 5,525,000 for the project from the Regional Operational Programme. The project’s total value is PLN 6,500,000.
