Training specialist staff for the Company in Bolesławiec schools is the realisation of a dream of the President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The training programme has been prepared professionally and specifically, but it is not yet known how many graduates of post-secondary schools will find employment in KGHM mines in the future.
President Herbert Wirth did not hide the fact that although the dates for implementing the investment in Warta Bolesławiecka are uncertain and distant (2025–26), KGHM's current staffing needs are enormous, while specialists are extremely difficult to find. That is why he is doing everything possible to support vocational schools in adapting their educational programmes to the needs of the copper industry and to launch activation programmes for graduates of mining, mechanical and mechatronics schools registered with the Powiat Labour Office in Bolesławiec.
At the press conference held on Friday (14 September), the director of the Training Management Department – KGHM's project coordinator – spoke very specifically about graduates' chances of employment in the concern.
“To sum up the programme, the fourth edition of which is being implemented in Lubin, 41 of 50 trainees were employed by us,” said director Anna Trusiak. “After a student graduates, we conduct two job interviews with them. The first qualifies them for a six-month internship in KGHM mines, and the second is conducted after the internship in order to employ them in a specific position.
At the conference, the county governor emphasised the importance of the agreement. “The development of Bolesławiec and Warta Bolesławiecka is inseparably linked to the copper industry,” said Cezary Przybylski. “Creating specialist staff in our schools is a good investment in the future.”
Dariusz Kwaśniewski, who coordinates the programme on behalf of the county authorities, recalled how important it is to link education with business. “We have undertaken something significant,” said the board member. “And we have great hopes for this agreement, because we have some of the best vocational schools in Lower Silesia.
The Bolesławiec County Office is the only county office to have undertaken this type of cooperation with KGHM. In accordance with the signed letter of intent, the cooperation will concern:
- adapting educational programmes to the needs of the copper industry
- applying for the establishment of new types of schools, occupations and specialisations in accordance with the current and future needs of the copper industry
- support in recruiting teaching staff for the school, particularly for teaching specialised vocational subjects and practical vocational training
- supporting and assisting the school in revising the curricula for vocational subjects by providing technical and operational documentation, instructions, regulations, new technologies and studies concerning diploma projects
- organising and conducting vocational internships at KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. branches, in accordance with separate agreements/contracts adopted for this purpose
- assistance in finding new vocational internship placements at companies cooperating with KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
- obtaining financial resources for educational purposes under the principles of partnership cooperation
- cooperation with the Powiat Labour Office in Bolesławiec concerning the implementation and organisation of activation programmes for graduates of mining, mechanical and mechatronics schools registered with the Powiat Labour Office in Bolesławiec
