Since 1 August, the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Bolesławiec has been carrying out the “Family Assistant” project, which aims to strengthen preventive measures and improve methods of working with families to enable children to remain with them, as well as to introduce and strengthen the work of family assistants. Their task will be to conduct systematic, direct work with families experiencing difficulties in functioning properly.
The “Family Assistant” project also aims to improve and develop cooperation between representatives of institutions (including schools, the police, healthcare services, social welfare services and courts) that have contact with the child and the child’s family.
The first and most important element of this project is action by the municipality to provide the family with comprehensive assistance so that it can cope with its difficulties. These measures will also be carried out when a child is temporarily placed outside the family—in that case, they will seek to create conditions enabling the child to return to the care of the parents.
The project covers families that need support and are willing to participate. The family assistant’s scope of work includes:
- conducting household management skills training
- conducting budgeting training
- conducting health-care skills training
- motivating participants to deepen their knowledge about the child and encouraging participation in various areas of the child’s life
- conducting leisure-time organisation skills training.
The project carried out by MOPS Bolesławiec will continue until the end of August.
