For the next six months, a special four-page historical supplement will be added to the free newspaper, published since 2009 and available throughout Bolesławiec County.

“Six Municipalities, One Heart of History” – and although the history of Bolesławiec County between 1901 and 2001 contains wars, resettlements, changes of borders and political systems, the common denominator remains the same: people and their stories. From July, these are precisely what await new discovery.

Ceramics, Industry and Great Biographies

The series will not be a random collection of curiosities. The publications will focus on several key areas. Local ceramic traditions will be retold – a heritage that made Bolesławiec famous at home and abroad.

The biographies of outstanding figures will be equally important – both those who made their mark on pre-war history and the settlers who arrived here after World War II, as well as the people who built a new reality after 1989. Their lives tell a story of change, hope and determination.

The Voice of Local Enthusiasts

The project also has a social dimension. Some of the publications will be devoted to the work of local regional historians, family-history enthusiasts and witnesses of the past. They are the ones – often working beyond media attention – who preserve memories that cannot be found in textbooks. The series is intended as a tool for organizing their knowledge and making it available to a broader audience.

More Than History – Identity

The project’s overarching goal extends beyond popularizing history. Above all, it is about protecting and preserving cultural heritage by inviting residents to discuss who our predecessors were and how their everyday lives shaped today’s landscape – not only the urban landscape, but also the social and emotional one.

An Independent Medium as a Foundation of Democracy

The series also has a journalistic dimension. The historical articles are intended to strengthen the independence and pluralism of the region’s oldest free newspaper. At a time when local media face many challenges, the project focuses on quality and diversity of content. This, in turn – as we assume – will support the development of local democracy and genuinely contribute to building social ties and regional identity.
