A notice of suspected criminal activity during the WOŚP Final in Bolesławiec was filed in January by one of the volunteers – Janina Majewska. She informed the prosecutor’s office that the head of the headquarters had appropriated money collected and items intended for auction. The prosecutor’s office discontinued the case.
In a letter to the editorial office, Foundation spokesperson Krzysztof Dobies wrote that the information about the discontinuation of the proceedings was good news. He was pleased that the investigators examining the case had not found that funds collected during the Bolesławiec Final had been appropriated.
The Foundation will not appeal the prosecutor’s decision because it was not the Foundation that raised concerns about the organization of the Final in Bolesławiec. At the same time, Dobies expressed concern that the prosecutor had identified shortcomings and inconsistencies with the regulations governing the activities of the WOŚP headquarters. Below is the spokesperson’s full response:
Hello, we will not appeal. It was not us, as the Foundation, who reported concerns about the organization of the Final in Bolesławiec to the prosecutor’s office, and we trust the investigators’ work. In this case, the mechanism of social oversight worked; it is one of the most important tools for disciplining the work of WOŚP Final headquarters throughout Poland.
The information about the discontinuation of the proceedings is, after all, good news. We are pleased that the case was examined by the prosecutor’s office and that no crime was found to have been committed. Above all, we are pleased that the investigators examining the case did not find that the funds collected during the Final had been appropriated. This is what matters most to us.
At the same time, we are concerned by the statement you quoted from Ms. Regina Haniszewska, head of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, regarding doubts about whether all the actions of the Head of the Headquarters complied with the WOŚP Final regulations. We hope that during the next WOŚP Final in your city, led by a new Head of the Headquarters, these shortcomings can be avoided and that the entire organization of the collection in Bolesławiec will proceed in accordance with the spirit of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity—efficiently, honestly, reliably and with respect for the rules set out in the Regulations Governing Headquarters Operations.
Once again, we thank all the volunteers and donors in Bolesławiec for supporting the 20th Final. Thanks to you, nearly PLN 53,000—by no means an insignificant amount—was credited to our account. It will tangibly help achieve the collection’s goal: purchasing the most modern equipment to save the lives of premature babies and insulin pumps for pregnant women with diabetes.
