The Lower Silesian Junior and U18 Championships are the most important athletics event in the voivodeship. This year’s championships were held on Saturday, 5 May, in Bogatynia, at the Sports and Recreation Centre. A team of more than thirty athletes representing MKS Bolesłavia competed for medals and the titles of Lower Silesian champions.

The athletes won a total of 16 medals in the junior and U18 categories (3 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze). The Lower Silesian champions were Robert Polański in the 400 m hurdles, Dominika Kamińska in the U18 women’s 3,000 m (both coached by Małgorzata Markowska), and Kaja Caban in the high jump (coach Ryszard Posacki).

Kaja Caban (coach Ryszard Posacki), Agnieszka Bosek (coach Tomasz Markowski), Beata Dąbal (coach Tomasz Markowski) and Ewa Ochocka won two medals each. The sprinter, coached by Małgorzata Markowska, in addition to two medals in the 100 m hurdles and long jump, achieved the best result in the 100 m. Unfortunately, an injury ruled Ewa out of the final competition. Her qualifying time (12.53) was 0.40 seconds better than that of the current Lower Silesian champion.

There were also many interesting results, including numerous personal bests, which are a good sign ahead of the qualifying events for the Polish U18 Championships (OOM) and the Polish Junior Championships. The national competitions will be held as early as June.

The Bogatynia event also included competition events for age groups other than juniors. Bolesłavia’s U16 athletes performed excellently. Many of their results would have earned them medal positions in older categories. The official event for this age group is the Lower Silesian U16 Championships, which will be held on 19 May in Wrocław. Karolina Kędzia, a former MKS Bolesłavia athlete who now represents AZS AWF Wrocław, also competed. She is preparing for the Polish Combined Events Championships and international athletics competitions.
