The May Film Discussion Club will present four good films. The first of them, “This Must Be the Place” (Polish premiere: March 2012), received a nomination for the Palme d’Or and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at last year’s festival in Cannes. Sean Penn—difficult to recognize beneath a storm of jet-black hair, with his lips made up in red—delights with his acting.

An interesting offering is “Elena,” a Russian drama directed by Andriej Zwiagincew. It tells the story of the marriage of Władimir and Elena from Moscow, whose relationship resembles an arrangement. When the inheritance left by her ill husband and the welfare of Elena’s son come into play, the heroine changes from a submissive and meek person into a determined woman capable of anything.

The next film is “Oslo, August 31st,” a Norwegian film about a young and handsome man who believes that if you have not achieved success before the age of thirty, it is as if you have achieved nothing in life.

The final offering in May will be the animated film “Chico & Rita,” about the great love between the talented pianist Chico and the beautiful Rita, gifted with an extraordinary voice. The film’s soundtrack features jazz, cubop, mambo and samba.
