A building design was used to create the cake structure. It was enlarged and served the confectioners as a model for making the sweet building. The theatrical cake was half a metre high, 80 centimetres wide and 40 centimetres long.
The walls, floors and roofs were made of nut and butter cake, while chocolate mass served as mortar. The theatre roof was made of marzipan.
“It is a copy of the building,” says Andrzej Laudański, the bakery’s owner. “We recreated all the windows, doors, small columns and balustrades.”
The cake theatre took more than a dozen hours to build. The cake’s main structure was first covered with icing, onto which shutters and other architectural details were attached. “We were most worried about whether the attached details would hold,” says Laudański. “Professional literature says that elements should be attached with water. We made this kind of cake for the first time, but everything worked out.”
The cake was served at the opening gala of the Old Theatre, and its shape was kept secret until the end. Below, we present photographs of this delicious work of confectionery architecture.
