Mayor Piotr Roman said that he did not intend to take ownership of any roads belonging to the County. However, he added that he was willing to discuss transferring the summer and winter maintenance of county roads to the city (we wrote about this in detail in the article The City Does Not Want County Office Roads; There Will Be Charges for Bus Stops).

Deputy County Head Stanisław Chwojnicki made precisely such a declaration on November 16. – Recently, the media have reported on transferring provincial roads within Bolesławiec to the urban municipality [informowaliśmy o tym w tekście Magistrat zajmie się utrzymaniem dróg wojewódzkich – przyp. red.]. We want to support the mayor’s idea: one city, one person responsible – Chwojnicki said. – We are ready to transfer all county roads within the city to the municipal authorities for summer and winter maintenance. Naturally, this will involve certain financial arrangements.

– We also want our willingness to transfer the county roads to be the starting point for talks about transferring the maintenance of provincial roads to the city – the deputy county head continued. – We would like cooperation with local governments in the area of road infrastructure to be as good as possible.

At present, the county authorities are responsible for maintaining 100 km of provincial roads and 300 km of county roads. – In recent years, in the city, which has 20 km of county roads, the County Office has carried out a great many investments. Karola Miarki and Żwirki i Wigury Streets, as well as Leśna, Śluzowa, Staszica, Lubańska, Komuny Paryskiej and, most recently, Staroszkolna Streets, have been renovated – Chwojnicki listed during the conference.

This year, the County also opened another “Schetynówka” road to traffic – the Nowogrodziec–Brzeźnik road (more information on this subject can be found in issue 58 of “Istotne Informacje”), and in 2012 another one is scheduled to open, this time connecting Bolesławiec with the Copper Basin. – This is a very important transport route – the deputy county head emphasized. The project has already been approved by the Lower Silesian voivode. The investment is worth PLN 1.5 million.
