A concert entitled “Highlander, Return to the Mountain Pastures” was held in the church on Zamkowy Square – a commemoration of John Paul II. The event was organized by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre. The residents were invited to the free event by President Piotr Roman and Dean Stanisław Kusik.
The band, composed of graduates of the Academy of Music, performed highlander songs and religious hymns with an instrumental lineup of violin, viola and double bass.
The best-known songs included “Bej Bystra Woda”, “Highlander, Aren’t You Sorry”, “The Barge” and “Abba, Father”. The band also performed melodies played in Beskid churches during Mass, as well as the song with which highlanders welcomed John Paul II beneath Giewont.
The listeners gathered in the church sang the song “Black Madonna” together with the ensemble. Between songs, the band’s vocalist read highlanders’ memories of John Paul II. Each text expressed the great devotion and love with which the highlanders regarded the Holy Father
